A Moment's Decay

Electronics for 7 Speakers and Painting

2022

A Moment's Decay presents an observation of the fragmentation of memory with time, alongside an attempt to grasp tightly onto memories in resistance to their gradual decay. The piece does this through an equal fragmentation of audio taken from my own memories throughout 2019-2022, deconstructing them gradually with the flow of time. Using the form of the clock face, the piece places a key significance on the numerical markers of IX, XII and III, which are used as a connection between the use of visual artwork and music within the work. This therefore allows each marker to function both as literal markers within the clockwise abstraction within it's visual material and as spatial indicators in the delay of the piece's musical material.
