Attempted Soothing is my first exploration into the musical recontextualisation of everyday objects holding a key significance to important everyday experiences. This piece responds to my own personal experiences with severe eczema, for which I became dependant upon the use of electric fans to soothe my skin. Attempted Soothing therefore directly represents the significance of my dependency on electric fans as a coping mechanism with the condition. The piece consists of an initial exploration into the textual capabilities of the fan when contextualised by harmonic instrumental material, which has been become the core basis for both my pieces Soothing and Tranquil Agitation.
